Dr Hurwitz is a medical oncologist with a special interest in breast and genitourinary cancers. Dr Hurwitz is a firm believer in shared decision-making, where communication and compassion are central to every interaction. He serves as principal investigator and sub-investigator on numerous breast and genitourinary cancer trials, providing eligible patients access to new treatment options. Dr Hurwitz advocates for all his patients, their families, and their personal beliefs.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Hurwitz pursues his academic and educational interests, including a PhD in metastatic breast cancer at Monash University, co-hosting the podcast Oncology for the Inquisitive Mind, and training the next generation of specialists.
Dr Hurwitz completed his specialisation at Liverpool, Bankstown and St Vincent's Hospitals in Sydney. He then furthered his training at the Kinghorn Cancer Centre and the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, undertaking a breast and genitourinary cancer fellowship under the guidance of Profs Elgene Lim and Anthony Joshua. These mentors shaped Dr Hurwitz's approach to patient care. He also completed an observership at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.
Outside of oncology, he spends most of his time with his wife and their two young children, and whatever's left usually goes to ABC Classic FM, photography, or a run.

Dr Hurwitz's private practice is conducted through Oncology Clinics Victoria (OCV), a network of medical oncologists and clinical haematologists based at Cabrini's Malvern and Brighton hospitals, delivering coordinated, multidisciplinary cancer care.

Dr Hurwitz presents at and helps run education events for GPs, specialists and oncology trainees, and co-hosts the podcast Oncology for the Inquisitive Mind. In 2025 he co-convened and hosted the Monash Health Research Retreat. Teaching keeps him close to the latest evidence, which he brings back to the care of his own patients.
